History of the Crispbread
The Crispbread, or Swedish cracker, was invented in Sweden since 500AD. It’s original shape was a round wafer with a hole in its middle, which made it easy to store them on a stick under the roof. Finland and Sweden have a long tradition of eating crispbread, commonly found in households since the 1800s. Traditionally, crispbreads were baked only 2 times a year. The first time following the harvest and the second time in the spring when frozen river waters would begin to flow. Rectangular crispbreads (Knäckebrot) were first manufactured in Germany in 1927 and has remained popular ever since.
Benefits to Health:
The Crispbread contains a large amount of dietary fibers, which are extremely beneficial for comfortable bowel movements. Dietary fibers help to soften up stool, maximize bulk, and shortens the time it takes for stool to travel through the intestinal tract. Due to the presence of wholegrain, the crispbread has a significant amount of dietary fibers, which contain very little fat. The crispbread is an important source of antioxidants, vitamins, phytoestrogens and minerals. The presence of wholegrain in multiple diets has also been shown to lower mortality rates.
